Emma’s love life and SwanQueen

"Emma is going to find herself with a few choices this season and I think there are the people that are right for you, and there are the people that are wrong for you, and then there are the people that you just choose and I think Emma is going to face all those things." - Edward Kitsis


Having this in mind, let’s analize…

This quote was said when wondering about Emma’s love life in season 2, so, I’m gonna talk about it as well.

If we have “people that are right for your", “people that are wrong for you" and “people you just choose", we need an embodiment for each of these, right? We need three people that represent these 3 aspects for Emma. So, I’m throwing my guesses:

Neal
Hook
Regina


Having Neal as “the right choice" was hard for me to figure out. I expressed before my feelings about their relationship and how wrong is the message of having them together after what he did to Emma.
Although, I’m gonna see this through the eyes of the audience and the major part of the characters on the show.
Since Neal shown up, most characters started to point out the feelings Neal and Emma have for each other. Some started to root for them.
Rumple, Snow and Henry are some examples. This is supposed to tell the audience that SwanFire is the right choise, that he’s the right guy for Emma. Neal is the right choice for Henry, in his mind.
(Thank God the majority of the fandom doesn’t see the appeal and started to talk about the bad implications it has)

Hook is “the wrong choice". He’s presented as a villain that only cares about revenge. I think the moment that defined my belief was when Emma left him with the Giant. She couldn’t trust him.
CaptainSwan might be more appealing to the viewers (and even be tentalizing for Emma) but there is something important we can’t forget: Henry.
Hook is wrong for Henry and Emma knows it as well. And Henry is the most important thing for Emma, so we can’t forget him when talking about Emma’s options.

Then we have Regina, the person you just choose. The one who needs to be chosen the most.
She’s the villain that never wanted to be a villain, she’s the one who is craving for love, the one who dances between light and dark. And she has always been Emma’s choice (consciously or not).
Emma chose to save her many times, Emma chose to believe in her regarding Archie’s death, Emma chose to stand by her when everyone was ready to seize her.
Emma chose to see Regina instead of the Evil Queen, she chose the difficult path, not the easy one. That’s why the scene in the mines, in the finale (let’s talk about the fact that she even chooses to go herself to the mines with Regina) is important.
In the end, Emma chose to save everyone, with Regina. She chose to trust Regina one more time, because together they are strong. She doesn’t trust Neal, she doesn’t trust Hook, but she (unconsciously or not) always trusts Regina in a deep level…and she chooses her.
And because we can’t forget Henry, he too chose Regina. In the end, it was Regina he was hugging, because she’s his choice too, because she’s his stronger bond. Emma, Regina and Henry are the strongest - together…because they are family, they are the main family of the show.
If you think about Neal and Hook’s parallels* with Regina, everything becomes even more interesting.
Because maybe your choice is between right and wrong, because maybe what you choose is what really defines you.
It’s not black or white, it’s grey. Regina is grey, Regina is the grey choice. Emma is grey as well and grey is Swan Queen.

Everybody is thinking about love triangles in season 3. I believe we’ll have them, but not as the main audience thinks.
Regina will also be Emma’s love interest, along with Hook and Neal and this will endure for further seasons. And, in the end, as always, since the very beginning, Regina will be the chosen one.
Emma will prove to her that she is enough…together they are enough. The savior will save the one who needs the most, saving herself as well.

As I promised: THEE LIST of Hook & Neal parallels with Regina…

Be prepared for your head to explode. This shit is END GAME MUTHA FUCKAS(I mean Swen BTW trust me this shit totally supports Swanqueen being endgame)

This thought came about when Spookyfbi and I were speculating on SwanQueen being planned out as Endgame for the creators of OUAT. After I saw a gift set of Regina telling Rumple that he didn’t have what she needed and then looked at Emma’s Mobile hanging in Gold’s shop, and how all these clues that were popping up were getting ridiculous. Spookyfbi started with a reply speculating on whether the writers were clue less or if Neal/Emma was a red herring and then slapped this gem in there:

“but I have to say throughout all of this that Neal & Hook basically represent two aspects of Regina. Like, Hook is motivated by revenge for the death of a lover, and Neal is connected to Emma through Henry and has a traumatic childhood. So even SwanThief and CaptainSwan basically represent two half-assed versions of SwanQueen.”

So this idea was then born on how Hook and Neal Support the idea of SwanQueen being endgame. Hook and Neal have been hinted at as lovers for Emma Swan. They both seem to be counter parts to Regina. Like if you took them and stuck them together, you’d create Regina. This may be confusing at this point but go with me here:

Hook is a male counterpart to Regina; his lover’s heart was ripped from her chest in front of him. Now his entire MO is based off this event. It runs an exact parallel to Regina’s MO.

Neal is also a male counterpart to Regina. Not only do they share a similar childhood; Neal is connected to Emma Swan through Henry. This is the exact same way Regina is connected to Emma Swan.

If you combined these two characters (Hook & Neal) from these base lines, you get the character of Regina’s exact frame work.

Occam’s Razor: If Emma could fall in love with Neal or Hook; why not be with someone that embodies them both? Regina. It’s the simplest most elegant solution.

For further emphasis Neal/Regina parallels are as follows:

Neal’s Father chose power over him. / Regina’s Mother chose power over her.

Neal’s Mother was physically absent though his child hood. / Regina’s Father was emotionally absent through her child hood.

Neal’s mother failed to protect him from his father. / Regina’s father failed to protect her from her mother.

Neal was afraid of his father when he used magic. / Regina was afraid of her mother when she used magic.

Neal is against using magic. / Young!Regina is against using magic.

Neal was very adamant about not wanting innocents to be harmed. / Young!Regina was very adamant about not wanting innocents to be harmed.

Neal’s future was chosen for him by his father. He told his father that he should just do his duty and fight in the war. / Regina’s future was chosen for her by her mother. She told her mother she wanted to marry a stable boy.

Neal’s father killed the army recruiters when they came to get Bae-Neal to bring him to war, in front of him. / Regina’s mother killed the stable boy in front of her.

Neal’s father interfered with Neal’s future out of his own selfish reasons. / Regina’s mother interfered with Regina’s future out of her own selfish reasons.

Neal thought that his mother was dead when she wasn’t. / Regina thought her mother was dead when she wasn’t.

Rumplestiltskin was responsible for Neal’s mother’s death.(her heart was taken from her chest) / Rumplestiltskin shared responsibility for Regina’s mother’s death.(her heart was put back in)

Neal’s father ripped out someone’s heart and crushed it in front of their True Love. / Regina’s mother ripped out someone’s heart and crushed it in front of their True Love.

Now for Hook/Regina parallels:

Hook was involved in Neal initially thinking his mother was dead. / Hook was involved in Regina initially thinking her mother was dead.

Hook’s lover’s heart was ripped from her chest and crushed in front of him. / Regina’s lover’s heart was ripped from his chest and crushed in front of her.

Hook got his revenge but not in the way he thought he would. / Regina got her revenge but not in the way she thought she would.

They have similar thought processes: Regina was planning on betraying Hook in ‘The Evil Queen’. / Hook was planning on betraying Regina in ‘The Evil Queen’.

Emma trusted Hook in a tight spot even though she felt there was a good chance that he would betray her(bean stalk)./ Emma trusted Regina in a tight spot even though she felt there was a chance that she would betray her(Library Elevator). In both cases Emma was wrong.

Hook teamed up with Emma only because their partnership could best complete his goal; Getting to Storybrooke to kill Gold. / Regina teamed up with Emma only because their partnership could best complete her goal; Saving Henry.

Hook is easily tricked by Cora into doing her bidding. / Regina is easily tricked by Cora into doing her bidding.

On the show, Emma has only punched two people in the face; Hook and Regina.

Hook tried to change for his adopted son. / Regina tried to change for her adopted son.

In his original attempt at redemption for his son Hook failed. / In her original attempt Regina failed in trying to change for her son.

Hook is in desperate need of family to the point of obsession. / Regina is in desperate need of family to the point of obsession.
